Dogs Will Fly Again Next Summer: Paw Palooza 2020 Update

April 30, 2020 By Agway of Cape Cod

The Agway of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation has made the decision to postpone the 2020 Paw Palooza dog festival.  Originally scheduled for August 1 and 2 of this year, we expect to bring back what has become the Northeast’s biggest pet fest during the summer of 2021.

As disappointing as it is to cancel this outing that thousands of residents, visitors and dogs have come to look forward to, the safety of our community and our team has to come first.

Many of our sponsors and vendors are local small businesses like our own. While postponing the event means businesses will be missing out on an opportunity for additional revenue, it also is prudent of us as responsible business owners to acknowledge that sponsoring an event like this is an extra expense when businesses need to be focused on the essentials.

In addition to being a weekend of celebrating our love of dogs, Paw Palooza also raises important funds for our local animal shelters.  The Agway Foundation has donated more than $100,000 to the Animal Rescue League and the MSPCA as a result of the festival over the past few years.  We encourage all of you to continue supporting these organizations in any way you can during these difficult times.

Paw Palooza is one of the great highlights for our team at Agway who spend months planning this event.  As heartbreaking as this is to all of us, we fully expect to return next summer with Paw Palooza 2021.  We’ll share dates and more news as it becomes available, be sure to follow us on Instagram @PawPaloozaCapeCod.

Until then, we wish you and your furry family members well!

Get to Know the Beneficiaries

March 15, 2019 By Paw Palooza Team

beneficiaries. Water background. Animal Rescue League of Boston, MSPCA Cape CodPaw Palooza Cape Cod kicked off it’s first year of raising money and awareness of animal welfare on the Cape back in 2016. The start of an awesome fundraiser that supports both the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) Brewster shelter and the MSPCA of Cape Cod. To date both organizations have benefited from the over $110,000 Paw Palooza has raised   the last 3 years!

So what exactly is this money going towards? Both the MSPCA and ARL receive most of their funding from  donations and fundraisers such as Paw Palooza. This money typically goes towards the “daily operations” such as feeding and providing shelter to the animals, having the funding to address any medical issues the animals might have, and maintaining clean and healthy environments for the animals.

The ARL, located at 3981 Main St, Brewster, MA 0263, has been on the Cape since 1921. Not only does the ARL shelter household pets such as dogs, cats, and small animals. They also have a selection to shelter livestock like pigs and chickens that need homes as well. The ARL is always looking for volunteers and has expressed how crucial it is that each animal receives one-on-one time before going to their forever homes. To learn more about the ARL and what you can do to help, visit their website at https://www.arlboston.org/adopt/adoption-centers/#brewstershelter

The MSPCA just opened a new facility last spring in Centerville at 1577 Falmouth Road. This facility, and many other resources, were made possible with the help of the Paw Palooza donation! The MSPCA of Cape Cod now offers services like low cost spay and neutering, behavior training, educational classes on caring for your furry and feathered friends, and much more. Check out their website, https://www.mspca.org/ to learn more.

Countdown to Paw Palooza 2020

March 15, 2019 By Paw Palooza Team

Countdown to Paw Palooza 2020Did you hear that we are taking a break in 2019? Don’t worry, we aren’t gone for good. Our Paw Palooza team is currently in the process of planning the next Paw Palooza! The date is still to be determined, but we know for sure that we will be back in July 2020.

Dog wearing vest jumping into pool at Paw PaloozaAfter planning Paw Palooza 2018, the Agway of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation team realized that in order for the event to have an even bigger impact on the Cape Cod animal welfare community, it was necessary to change to a  biennial schedule. We’re beyond thrilled with the impact this event has had on our local animal welfare community. Thanks to our sponsors and attendees, we’ve donated over $110,000 since 2016 to the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Brewster Shelter and the MSPCA in Centerville.

We will certainly miss you in 2019, but this just means we are raising the bar for 2020!

So what does Paw Palooza 2020 have in store? Of course, we will continue with our crowd favorite event of the high flying dock dogs! The dock diving competition that tests your dog’s speed, distance and height is our main event, and never fails to disappoint. We’ve had pups come from as far as Florida come  to compete in Paw Palooza’s competition. We’re also exploring new dog-friendly activities and entertainment.People walking around Paw Palooza dog festival

In the meantime, come on in and visit the team at Agway of Cape Cod! Many of our Paw Palooza guests don’t realize that the festival is all planned, organized, executed, (and mostly staffed) by the owners and staff of Agway. While we’re on Palooza break this year, we’ll still be hosting a variety of pet-friendly fundraising events to keep the support for the Cape’s animal welfare organizations. We’ve partnered up with Devil’s Purse Brewing Co. for some fun Yappy Hours! Stay tuned for more on Agway’s website.

We’ll be in touch as the year progresses with the event date, sponsor and vendor information and more. In the meantime, make sure to follow us on Instagram at @pawpaloozacapecod, and keep an eye out for our emails!

Latham Staff and Residents Volunteer at Paw Palooza Dog Festival

July 25, 2018 By katiej

Agway of Cape Cod’s Charitable Foundation hosted the third annual Paw Palooza in Yarmouth this past weekend, and some of our staff members and residents were thrilled to attend and volunteer at the event. About 10,000 people came to celebrate their furry friends and support the Cape’s two largest humane organizations. The event’s proceeds will benefit our region’s animal welfare organizations, specifically the Animal Rescue League of Boston (Cape Cod branch in Brewster) and the MSPCA-Angell – Cape Adoption Center in Centerville. The past two Paw Paloozas raised over $53,000 for these deserving nonprofits.

Agway is a valued community partner of Latham Centers. Since 2013, Latham and Agway have worked together to create employment opportunities for both our students and adult residents. Agway is a past recipient of Latham Centers’ William McClennan Community Service Award, and our Vocational Director Maura Smith said the company has been incredibly supportive of helping our individuals develop vocational skills, earn income, and expand opportunities for community inclusion. The Latham residents and staff members who volunteered at Paw Palooza in support of our good friends at Agway expressed their thanks for the opportunity to “pay it forward.” Great Hill adult residents Krissy and Andrea and Residential Counselor Brianna Isaacs came all the way from Sandwich to help. They worked at the entrance and assisted in greeting the attendees and their pets. They also provided guidance to visitors regarding the schedule of events and where the various activities and tents were located.

Arlene Harrington, Staff Accountant from Latham’s business office, also volunteered on Sunday. “This was my first-time volunteering at Paw Palooza and I was very impressed by how well organized it was,” Arlene said. “It was a pleasure to spend the day with a great group of people. As a Latham employee, I was so inspired to see many of our adult residents as well as other staff members so willing to donate their time and talents to such a worthy cause. It is a great opportunity for everyone to be more involved in our local communities.”

Our Vocational Director agreed. “We love the Paw Palooza Dog Festival for so many reasons,” Maura said. “Most of our residents share a great love of animals, and it was the perfect weekend to come together with the community of dog lovers and help this worthy cause.” Congratulations to the Agway of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation for another successful Paw Palooza!
