What is Dock Diving?
Dock Diving is the fastest growing water sport for canines in North America! Throughout the Show, DockDogs® will present the Big Air® Wave competition accompanied by an Extreme Vertical® and Speed Retrieve® competition for both competitors and spectators to enjoy. The Big Air® competition features dogs running down a 40’ dock and diving into a pool of water after an object, in which they are electronically judged for the length of their jump. The Extreme Vertical® competition is a “High Jump” for the dogs as they each lunge to snag a “bumper” suspended in the air. With each grab, the height increases in 2-inch increments until only one dog is crowned king. Rounding out the action is the newest form of competition known as Speed Retrieve® – where the dogs are put on the clock to see how fast they can run down the dock, jump into the water, swim to the end of the pool and retrieve an object which is held by a modified extender arm.
Can my dog jump? How do I sign him up?
The competitions are open to any and everyone. Teams are made up of one dog and one handler. Your canine must be 6 months or older to be eligible. Canines of any breed, size or shape are welcomed. Not only is the competition open to all types of canines, but also handlers above the age of 7 are welcomed. There is even a Youth Handler class for those who are between the ages of 7-14.
So if you or anyone you know has a dog that likes the water, gets along with other dogs and enjoys a good “chew toy”, this event is for you! Pre-registration will be available until 1 week prior to the event here, or you can register on-site at the beginning of the day.
In between competitions (as time permits), registered dogs will be invited to practice jumping. Dock Dogs professional staff members will be on site to help train dogs and people new to the sport.
Is the event rain or shine?
Yes! The event will only be stopped in the event of lightning.
My dog is not competing in the Dock Diving event. Can he still attend?
Yes, this is a dog-friendly pet festival! All friendly, well-socialized, vaccinated dogs are invited. Please note that dogs must be leashed at all times.
Will there be seating?
There will be limited seating for spectators to watch the competition. We invite you to bring beach chairs and blankets if you’d like.
Is there a fee to attend? Do I need cash?
Your $5 entrance fee supports the Animal Rescue League and MSPCA. Children 12 and under and dogs are free. Credit cards will be accepted, but cash is appreciated in order to keep the line moving. Food vendors and retailers will also have items available for purchase.
Will there be other activities in addition to the Dock Diving Show?
Absolutely! The “Show Ring” will feature Frisbee dog shows, K-9 demonstrations, agility, fly ball, contests and more. More than 50 vendors will also be on site offering giveaways, shopping opportunities and dog- and kid-friendly activities. Food trucks will offer delicious menu items. And the Doggie University tent will offer informative and fun seminars throughout the weekend. The full schedule will be posted closer to the event.
Will there be parking?
There is ample free parking at DY High School. If the lot is full, overflow parking will be available at Station Avenue Elementary School next door. Parking will not be permitted on the private roads abutting the schools.
Do I need to bring water for my dog?
Free water stations will be available throughout the park for dogs. However, if it’s a hot day, we recommend bringing plenty of extra water for your pup. Bottled water (generously donated by Shaws) will also be available for purchase, all proceeds will benefit the MSPCA and ARL.
Will this be the coolest, most fun pet festival that me and my dog have EVER attended?
Paws down, YES!
