Between watching the DockDogs action at the pool and shopping the vendor fair, there are dozens of other activities to keep you, your pup and your kids entertained!
Check out the “Doggie University” tent to hear seminars presented by leaders in canine health and behavioral industries. Catch awesome performances in the Show Ring by Frisbee dogs, local Police K-9 teams, agility experts and others. Let the kiddos have fun with interactive games and face painting in the Kids Zone, while your pup enjoys activities of his own, including PupCasso art making and puppy facials. And don’t miss your chance to capture a Paw Palooza family selfie in the Kissing Booth! If all of this fun has you tired and hungry, take a load off and grab some lunch and cold refreshments from one of the food trucks!
10 Things Not to Miss at Paw Palooza!
Paw Palooza 2017 – the Cape’s biggest dog festival – returns on July 15 and 16 to Dennis Yarmouth High School. Grab your dog loving friends and family, and your dog, and head to Yarmouth for two days of the most fun you’ll have all summer! Between the Dock Diving competition, show ring, vendor fair, and other activities, there’s more to do than ever this year! Your event program will include all of the details, but here’s a sneak peek at 10 things you won’t want to miss:
The “Main Event” and your chance to say “I saw dogs fly on Cape Cod”! Competitions will be taking place throughout entire weekend as dogs compete for distance, height (don’t miss the Extreme Vertical competition at 5 pm on Saturday) and speed. You’ll see amazing leaps from veteran competitors and Dock Dogs record holders. And you’ll see pups who are trying for the first time and need a little crowd encouragement to make the leap! Interested in trying it with YOUR dog? Register him or her here.
The “Other” Pools
Your dog might not be up for leaping off a dock into a 40-foot pool, but he can still take a dip. Head over to the “Puppy Pool Pavillion” where he (or she) can cool off in one of the many kiddie pools. Next to the pool pavilion, humans (and pups) can beat the heat in the new misting tents.
Have you ever seen a working police dog take down a criminal and refuse to let go until commanded? K-9 teams from the Yarmouth Police Department and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department will offer demos that include a mock narcotics search, simulated criminal apprehension and Q&A. Come witness the intelligence and power of these highly trained dogs in the Paw Palooza show ring at 10 AM on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday.
Going to school in July is a blast when it’s Doggie University! Swing by the tent to hear from guest professors who will be delivering talks on important subjects like ticks, osteoarthritis and behavior issues. Check out the class schedule here.
New this year! Wouldn’t you love a caricature of your dog? Or better yet, of you AND your dog? Line up early to visit the professional caricature artist who will be on hand from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday and from 10 AM – 2 PM on Sunday.
Frisbee Dog Show
Have you ever seen a dog do a backflip? World record holder Mike Piazza and his team of Border Collies will return to dazzle guests with their high flying frisbee catching skills on Saturday at 1 PM. Considered the top professional frisbee dog performers in the world, these guys have performed for the NFL, MLB, ESPN and more. The interactive demo includes an opportunity for kids to participate. Catch them in the show ring at 1 PM on Saturday.
Face painting & Inflatables
Paw Palooza isn’t just for the dogs! The kiddos will love the new Kids Zone, featuring four inflatable bouncy houses. They can also get their faces painted by the pros over at the Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod booth. And what kid-friendly event wouldn’t be complete without ice cream, pizza and other goodies?
Pupcasso Art Making
Unleash your dog’s inner Picasso over at the Pupcasso Art Making booth hosted by The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. Choose your favorite paint colors and watch as your dog paints his own masterpiece with his paws (and possibly his behind if he chooses to sit on it!). Return to pick up his piece after it dries and you’ll have a proud work of art to hang on your fridge.
Catch some of the Cape’s top agility contenders in the show ring! Led by Nancy Bishop of the Cape Cod Kennel Club, dogs will race through an agility course complete with weave poles, tunnels, jumps and more. Later each afternoon, the Chatham Dog Club will set up their own agility equipment in the ring and allow for attendees to test the equipment with their own dogs.
Restaurant gift certificates, overnight stays at resorts, jewelry, a year’s supply of dog food, theater tickets, rounds of golf, and more dog treats, toys and supplies than you can imagine…that’s just the start of the amazing prizes that will be up for grabs in the Raffle Tent! Tickets will be $5 each or 10 tickets for only $20 and you don’t need to be present to win. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Don’t forget, all of the money you spend on raffle tickets directly benefits the MSPCA and Animal Rescue League shelters here on the Cape!
